Google Stadia is closing its internal Studio; Why?

In 2019, google launched Stadia as a gaming platform to provide its customers with a better cloud-based gaming experience. In the start, this platform brought exponential profit with a vast amount of players using it. Google announces an extension of two months of free premium access, making it more famous among users. But after doing all of this and investing so much in this platform, Google is closing the internal studios. There will be no further renewals or exclusive content available on Stadia. The change has occurred a few days ago; On Monday, Google gave the statement.

Google Statement

Creating best-in-class games from the ground up takes many years and significant investment, and the cost is going up exponentially. Given our focus on building on the proven technology of Stadia as well as deepening our business partnerships, we’ve decided that we will not be investing further in bringing exclusive content from our internal development team SG&E, beyond any near-term planned games”.

It means that Google won’t be contributing to making new content for Google Stadia. But it won’t affect third party contribution to the platform. Third parties can still bring their content to Stadia.

Moreover, the primary reason is that Google wants to change its focus on using Stadia for its industry partners instead of giving content to be their own. They want to share a chance of using this platform for their partner’s development and growth.

The closure of the in-house gaming studio will change the way that this industry work. Many new parties will introduce their content, making it profitable for them and google as well. Most of the members of SG&E team would be performing new roles in Google Corporation. They will be staying back or leaving the company depending on them. Google will close its internal studio for Google Stadia to give its partners a chance.
